The city of Khorol is once again in mourning. Another hero, a soldier of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, native of Khorol, Kostiantyn Mykolaiovych Radchenko, has returned home “on a shield.” A private soldier, senior mechanic-driver of a separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, gave his life defending Ukraine in the Kursk region. The warrior died on February 17, 2025, while performing a combat mission, receiving multiple shrapnel wounds. The enemy fire struck the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, which was driven by Kostiantyn Mykolaiovych.

The large community of the Khorol region met the coffin with the body of the slain soldier Kostiantyn on their knees, forming a living corridor of respect. With a farewell speech to those present at the mourning farewell ceremony addressed: Ruslan Levin, deputy of the Lubensky District Council, and Natalia Shegera, senior lieutenant of the 1st department of the Lubensky RTCK and SP. The requiem litany in the square of the Great Kobzar and the funeral rite were conducted by representatives of the clergy of the Poltava eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: the clergyman of the Petro-Pavlivskyi church of Khorol, the mitred archpriest, the dean – Father Ivan Sushinets and the priest Vasyl Lipshyi.

The Hero was buried in the Alley of Glory of the central city cemetery with all military honors and according to Orthodox canons. The loud sound of a three-time salute of the guard of honor in his honor pierced the space, in which the mourning atmosphere with great human grief hovered. The Hero’s body is at rest in a row with 32 Knights of Light, our glorious Defenders. The native land, for which they selflessly fought against the occupier, forever embraced them.
