🇺🇦 The community today paid its final respects to Serhiy Laba, who died defending our freedom.

Serhiy Laba was born in Zdolbuniv and grew up with an older sister. After graduating from Zdolbuniv Secondary School No. 2, he continued his education at the Kremenchuk Mining and Metallurgical College, specializing in “Maintenance and Repair of Automobiles.” After completing his studies, he worked as a driver at a local cement and slate plant.

Serhiy was generous and kind, and he loved his family very much. He was always ready to help others. He enjoyed playing the guitar.

He joined the defense of Ukraine in August 2023. He underwent training in Kamianets-Podilskyi. He served in the 142nd Separate Mechanized Brigade in the sapper-miner unit. He fought in the Chernihiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions.

For courage, conscientious military service, and high professionalism, he was repeatedly awarded certificates of merit.

On February 16, 2025, Serhiy reported that he was going on a mission and might be out of contact for some time. This was the last message from him… He died on February 17, 2025, during combat operations in the Donetsk region. He was 56 years old. His son was left without a father.

“My husband is the best. I have never met people like him. He loved his city very much, loved life very much… My best friend, my classmate, my support,” says his wife about him.
