SBU Warns of New Attempts by Russian Special Services to Destabilize Ukraine through Information Warfare

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported a significant intensification of information and psychological special operations by Russian special services within Ukraine. This surge in activity aims to sow discord and incite protest sentiments among the Ukrainian population.

Recently, there has been a marked increase in information diversions designed to fracture society and artificially amplify protest moods. Russian special services are leveraging their full capabilities, including bot farms, to spread disinformation and manipulate public opinion. They are actively employing controlled groups and fake accounts on popular social media platforms, especially TikTok and Telegram.

The malicious content disseminated by the enemy includes fabricated reports about the alleged spread of protest sentiments among Ukrainians and street unrest in various regions. Simultaneously, Russia calls for mass actions aimed at disrupting public order and the constitutional system, even offering financial incentives for participation in rallies. The SBU is taking all necessary measures to respond to these threats and counter the present and potential dangers to Ukraine’s national security.

The SBU urges citizens to remain vigilant and avoid reacting to enemy provocations, which Russia uses to undermine the internal stability of our country. It is important to recognize the severity of these actions, which seek to manipulate public perception and incite unrest. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to destabilize Ukraine and erode public trust.

It is also important to note that actions aimed at the violent alteration or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power (especially under conditions of certain restrictions established by the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law”) constitute a crime under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment. The SBU’s proactive measures are essential in preventing such illegal activities.

The heroic resistance of Ukrainians to Russian aggression has repeatedly demonstrated that our people are most capable of effectively opposing the enemy when united. No Russian information operations can undermine our national spirit. The resolve and unity of the Ukrainian people are the most potent defenses against such attacks.
