Slavuta ARVI Update: Cases Rising, Schools Adapt to Protect Health

The Slavuta branch of the Shepetivka Regional Department of the State Institution “Khmelnytsky Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” provides information on the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in the Slavuta city territorial community. This report details the current situation, offering insights into the spread of the illness and measures being taken to address it.

📊 ARVI Incidence Statistics

During the period from February 3rd to 9th, the number of cases of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) increased by 1.9 times – from 143 to 280 cases. The growth in morbidity among schoolchildren increased by 2 times (173 cases against 84 the previous week). This significant rise underscores the importance of understanding the spread of the illness and taking necessary precautions.

🔹 The incidence rate is 783.2 per 100,000 population, which indicates a moderate level of the epidemic process with a tendency to increase. This figure serves as a critical indicator of the community’s health status and helps in assessing the severity of the situation. The trend towards growth warrants careful monitoring and proactive measures.

🔹 As of February 10th, 63 people sought medical help, including 57 children aged 0 to 17 years. The high number of children affected highlights the need for targeted health initiatives within schools and families.

🔹 Laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have not been registered in the community. This is good news, but the ongoing presence of ARVI still requires vigilance and preventive actions.

🏫 Morbidity in Educational Institutions

As of February 12th, the overall morbidity rate among students is 13.8%, which does not exceed the limit (25%), but some schools are already partially switching to distance learning. While the rate is below the threshold, the move to online classes for some schools illustrates a proactive approach to contain the spread of the virus and protect students and staff.

❗️ We emphasize that according to the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, it is the pedagogical councils of schools that make decisions regarding the choice of the form of education. This ensures that decisions about education are made with the best interests of the students and community in mind, based on the local circumstances and expert advice.

📌 Morbidity level in educational institutions:

• Gymnasium №4 – 17.3%

• Slavutsky Lyceum – 18.0%

• Gymnasium №5 – 14.1%

• Gymnasium №6 – 13.4% (two classes in distance learning)

• Gymnasium №7 – 12.8%

• Gymnasium “Uspikh” – 10.5% (two classes in distance learning)

• Varvarivska Gymnasium – no cases of ARVI

• Gymnasiums №1 and №3 – full transition to distance learning.

The varying rates of infection across different schools demonstrate the need for targeted interventions and monitoring. The implementation of distance learning for several classes and schools showcases a flexible approach to maintaining education while prioritizing health.

The total number of students absent on the day of reporting is 592 people out of 2913. Of these, 402 students are ill with ARVI, and 190 are absent for other reasons. This data indicates a substantial impact on student attendance and underscores the importance of robust measures to curb the spread of the illness.

All educational institutions of the Slavuta community carry out complex sanitary and epidemiological measures aimed at minimizing the spread of infectious diseases. In particular, enhanced ventilation of premises, regular disinfection of surfaces, and monitoring of the health of students and employees are carried out. In the event of an increase in the incidence rate, educational institutions promptly make decisions about switching to distance learning or introducing additional restrictive measures. These measures reflect a commitment to creating a safe and healthy learning environment for all.

☝️The situation with the incidence of ARVI in the Slavuta community is under constant control of the relevant services. If the indicators change, the community will be promptly informed. This proactive approach to monitoring and communication ensures that residents are well-informed and can take appropriate actions.
