Volleyball Tournament Honoring Veteran Dmytro Satur Held in Tysmenitsa
On Sunday, February 23rd, the city of Tysmenitsa hosted a volleyball tournament dedicated to the memory of Dmytro Satur, a veteran of the Afghan war. This sporting event, organized for the third consecutive year by the Tysmenitsa City Council, brought together three participating teams. The teams from the villages of Markivtsi, Slobidka, and Stari Kryvotuly competed for the main trophy – the tournament cup.
The first deputy, Ruslan Farmus, greeted the participants on behalf of the mayor, Tetyana Gradyuk. Father-Dean Roman Mikiyevich blessed the participants of the competition.
Flowers were laid at the grave of Dmytro Satur.
Following the games, the volleyball team “Stari Kryvotuly” secured the first place, while “Markivtsi” took second. The volleyball team “Slobidka” rounded out the top three.
The prize winners received certificates and volleyballs from the Tysmenitsa City Council and Dmytro Satur’s widow, Oksana Satur.
The head of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional union of Afghanistan veterans, the chairman of the committee on veterans’ affairs of the public council under the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration, Viktor Omelko, presented the mayor Tetyana Gradyuk with the medal “For Civic Courage” from the Ukrainian Union of Afghanistan Veterans.
📎Reference: Satur Dmytro Yuriyovych was born on October 29, 1967, in the city of Tysmenitsa. He was a long-time head of the Tysmenitsa district organization “Ukrainian Union of Afghanistan Veterans,” a deputy of the Tysmenitsa and Ivano-Frankivsk district councils, and the author of the book “By the Roads of Memory.” He was involved in volunteer activities and organized sports events. He died on December 13, 2021. In 2023, the Tysmenitsa City Council initiated a volleyball tournament in memory of the Afghan war veteran Dmytro Satur.
