Дмитро Миколайович Чучко, a brave defender with the call sign Шевченко from the village of Mlynky, embodies the unwavering Ukrainian spirit. After enduring capture and severe injuries, his story is a testament to incredible courage and resilience. This article shares his remarkable journey.

Дмитро’s ordeal began in February 2024 during the fighting near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. While on duty, his position came under intense attack. Despite sustaining leg injuries, he remained hidden from the enemy. For a month, he survived in the trenches without medical assistance. Eventually, he was found by Russian forces who, initially intending to execute him, chose to take him prisoner, enticed by the promise of a reward. Дмитро was transferred to a hospital in Crimea, where his limbs were amputated. After a year of being considered missing in action, he was returned to his homeland in an exchange. His survival was a moment of profound joy for his family and fellow soldiers.

Before the full-scale war, Дмитро Миколайович worked as a tractor operator. In 2022, he joined the ranks of defenders. He fought against the Russian invaders in the Zaporizhzhia direction, including near Avdiivka. His brigade was later redeployed to Zaporizhzhia, where he was captured.

Today, Дмитро continues his recovery, and is visited by those who admire his heroism. His story inspires many. We honor his strength and resilience, and the sacrifices he made for Ukraine.
