Ukraine’s Path to Peace: Negotiations, Security, and European Support
This year must be a year of the beginning of real and reliable peace. Putin will not give us this peace, nor will he give it in exchange for something. We must achieve peace through strength, wisdom, and unity – through our cooperation.
First. Ukraine, Europe together with America. We must be at the negotiating table opposite Russia so that the need for peace is not again talked over with promises of “normalization,” “reset,” or “reconciliation.”
Second. The end of the war should begin with steps that restore trust in the situation itself because there is no trust in Russia. And we need a situation in which they are talking about the end of the war. Russia must release Ukrainians. Ukraine is ready to exchange all for all, and this is a fair option.
Third. Security guarantees are the key to peace, and the more reliable they are, the longer peace will last.
Fourth. We need to increase what we agreed on a bilateral basis. More interaction, more defense production, more financial stability, more technological things and what directly protects people’s lives: by developing Ukrainian air defense, we are creating the basis of a new European air shield.
And fifth. Preserving freedom in Europe directly depends on our ability, all of Europe, to become at least secure and independent.
I said this during the summit of support. I am proud of our cooperation, our friendship. Thank you for your support, for being together.

This year must be the year when real, lasting peace begins. Putin will not grant us peace, nor will he hand it over in exchange for something. We must win peace through strength, wisdom, and unity – through our cooperation.

Second. The end of the war must begin with steps that restore trust in the very situation in which peace is being discussed. Russia must release Ukrainians. Ukraine is ready for an all-for-all exchange, and that is a fair option to begin with.

Fourth. We need to increase what we have agreed upon bilaterally: more cooperation, more defense production, more financial resilience, more technological advancements, and things that directly protect people’s lives: by developing Ukraine’s air defense, we are laying the foundation for a new European air shield.
Fifth. Preserving freedom in Europe depends directly on our ability—as all of Europe—to become independent, at the very least, in terms of security.
