Lviv Honors Fallen Defenders: Funeral for Three Heroes

On February 25th, Lviv bids farewell to three brave defenders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the ongoing conflict. These individuals, each with their unique backgrounds and contributions, will be honored in a ceremony that reflects the city’s deep respect for its fallen heroes.

🕯 Oleksandr Doroshenko (04.03.1977-05.02.2025) A native of Lviv, Oleksandr attended School No. 11, known for its in-depth study of natural sciences and humanities (now the Lviv Law Gymnasium). He graduated from the College of Transport Infrastructure of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic.” After completing his studies, he served in the military in Transcarpathia. He worked in the woodworking industry, and in his free time, he loved to craft. Following the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, he defended the state from russian invaders as part of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed tasks in the Kharkiv direction.

🕯 Andriy-Nazar Romanyuk (13.11.2001-21.11.2023) Also from Lviv, Andriy-Nazar studied at School No. 42 before enrolling in the Lviv Professional College of Hotel, Tourism, and Restaurant Service, where he trained as a waiter-bartender. In 2021, he voluntarily joined the National Guard of Ukraine. He defended the state from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation: first, he held the position of assistant grenade launcher of the 2nd battalion, and during the last period, he performed combat missions as a scout-radiotelephonist of the 15th brigade of operational purpose named after Hero of Ukraine Lieutenant Bohdan Zavada of the Southern Operational-Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine. On November 21, 2023, Andriy-Nazar Romanyuk’s family lost contact with him.

🕯 Bohdan Yavorsky (12.07.1965-15.04.2024) Another Lviv native, Bohdan attended School No. 62. He earned a higher education at the National Forestry University. Since his student days, he was involved in human rights activities and was a member of the Ukrainian office of the international organization “Amnesty International.” He was engaged in entrepreneurial activity, and during the last period, he held the position of head of the paper products warehouse “Servisoptorg.” He was fluent in several foreign languages and loved to travel. Since 2014, he has been actively involved in volunteer activities, and later performed combat missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation as part of the Azov regiment. After the start of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, he defended the state in the ranks of the 12th brigade of special purpose “Azov” of the National Guard of Ukraine. He participated in the defense of “Azovstal.”

The funeral service for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. Peter and Paul. Afterward, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place in Rynok Square. The defenders will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery.
