What do people in Bashtanka, a frontline “town of heroes” in Mykolaivska oblast, do while they spend time in the town’s public shelter at the House of Culture? The answer is arts and crafts! Brilliant! Master potter Pan Mykola showed me his studio of pottery where shelves are full of pottery by all the townspeople. Truly a beautiful community! I would happily live here.

Canada is proud to be supporting the town (which was badly destroyed several times) through collaborative initiatives such as PFRU and UNDP.

I’m here trying my hand at making a cup. Can’t wait to see it once it comes out of the kiln!
